Fine Gael TD for Longford/Westmeath, Gabrielle McFadden, has extended her condolences to the family of former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds following his death.
“While I never knew Albert Reynolds personally, my late father Brendan knew him and held him in very high esteem.
“I am very proud of the fact that a former constituency TD was a key architect of the peace process.
“Albert’s significant involvement in securing peace in Northern Ireland will undoubtedly be a lasting legacy but even when Albert became Taoiseach, he never forgot his roots.
“Locally, he is rightly remembered for being a very active TD and as a successful businessmen, he provided huge employment to so many people.
“I wish to extend my sincere sympathies to Albert’s wife Kathleen, her children and extended family.”
