Fine Gael Longford/Westmeath Bye Election candidate, Gabrielle McFadden, has today (Tuesday) welcomed the announcement of 50 new jobs in Longford made by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD.
“Green Isle Foods is a well-known employer in Longford. A major investment of €30 million in the Longford plant and in the plant in Portumna represents an immense vote of confidence in the Longford area and secures the jobs of 700 people currently employed by Green Isle.
“Green Isle is a market leader and today’s investment will increase capacity and secures access to a wider range of international markets.
“The Government’s Action Plan for Jobs is focused on creating jobs across all regions of Ireland. Longford and Westmeath have suffered during the economic downturn and it is very encouraging to see recovery in our local area.
“The investment in Green Isle in Longford comes less than a month after the IDA has agreed a contract for delivery of a new building development in Athlone. This building will be suitable for future IDA client investments from a number of potential sectors.
“Investment in Longford and Westmeath will bring jobs to the locality and it will be positive for our towns and villages. Today’s announcement is a welcome boost for Longford. With 61,000 extra people at work in the past year, and jobs growth in every region of the country, it is clear that the Government’s plan is working.”
